Introducing {Old White Dresser}

What a great way to start off the week, a new piece! We finished this dresser over the weekend and it is now in the booth ready for a new home. I really liked the waterfall top and the details of it when I found it in Cullman. I choose old white for the color and used dark wax to really make all the details pop. I just love the way it turned out. It is the perfect sized little dresser to fit into any room.

Introducing {Signs}

Recently, I completed a few signs for the booth. The first one, of course, was A Lovely Avenue. That way everyone can know the name of the booth as they walk by!

It's not for sale, but I did make two that are. They are currently available in the booth.

{True Love - 12" x 15 " -  SOLD}

{French Country - 14.75" x 24" - $30}

All of my signs are hand painted and ready to be hung. If you are interested in a custom made sign, send me and email at info@alovelyavenue.com with the details and inspiration and I will give you a quote.

Inspiration: Stripes

This striped hallway from Country Living is to die for. I love that they decided to go with black. It makes such as statement. I don't know if I have told you, but I want to do stripes in the laundry room aka Bennett's room. It would really help to spice it up. I am thinking horizontal grey and white stripes about this width would be the perfect solution. How do you feel about stripes?

Master Bedroom Pillows

Yesterday, was all about my adventures with our new master bedroom curtains. Well, while I was on a sewing roll I also used the ikat fabric I had to make pillows for our bed.

It is amazing how the addition of curtains and pillows really improved the whole look of this room.

I just had enough fabric to cover the two pillow forms that I had bought.

That means I wasn't able to make a fancy pillow cover pocket. I just sewed two pieces together.

Putting the fabric pieces front to front, I sewed three of the sides together and little of the fourth with my sewing machine. Then I turned them pretty side out, stuffed in the form and hand-stitched the remaining.

Maybe now that the curtains and pillows are looking so awesome, it's about time that we actually hung something on the wall in the room.

Baby steps, my friends, baby steps.

Master Bedroom Curtains

I showed you yesterday the gorgeous fabric that I had brought home over 6 months ago and neglected to do anything with.

They are both going into our master bedroom. The one I started with first was the grey. But to get the party started I needed one of these.

Curtains! Alan has been begging for curtains for our window. That way he can pull them shut and try and get a little more sleep on the weekends.

I found the rod at Target. I liked the modern feel and the fact that it matched the wood of our furniture, even though the rod isn't actually made out of wood. It was about $30.

Once we hung it high and wide of the window. I was then able to measure the length of the curtains. I decided to try drapery clips. I picked up two packs of seven rings that best matched my rod from Target too. I have never used clips before, but it makes sewing the curtains crazy easy.

I didn't even take pictures of the sewing process because all I did was cut the length I wanted, hemmed about half and inch on either side of the length of each panel, and then hemmed four inches on either end.

Easy, done, and just clipped up there.

I also, cheated and did not line the panels. The fabric is really thick, so I didn't think it needed it. And so far, I am not regretting it.

So yes, this was an easy project and a great way to start out my sewing adventures.

To accompany our new grey drapes, I still have the ikat fabric from above. I am so in love with it and it made gorgeous pillows. You will see tomorrow!

Sew What

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Valentine's Day yesterday. I have been battling a cold, but I am finally starting to feel better today. Although, because of the cold, I wasn't as productive this weekend as I had hoped, but I was able to finally break out this baby.

My parent's got me my very own sewing machine for Christmas. Before that I would just go over to their house and use Mom's. After buying some thread and some much needed assistance from Mom, this Singer was ready to sew. I already had some fabric ready and waiting for some projects.

Confession time, I have had this fabric for a while. And when I say a while, I mean about 6 months. The shame! What am I sewing and what room are they for? You get all the details tomorrow!

Also, something I am very excited about, this is my 100th post! A little over six months ago I started the blog. So much has changed since then and I love sharing every bit with you. I appreciate everyone of you that stops by, it means so much to me. I can't wait to share the next 100 with you!

Booth Beginnings

Happy Friday everyone! I am ready for the weekend. I know this week has been all about the booth, but this weekend Alan and I have a few house projects on our agenda. Hopefully, next week I can share some fun updates. Until then, for your Friday enjoyment, I will share will you the transformation of our booth at Packards.

This is what it looked like as the previous tenant was moving out.

We gave the space a fresh coat of paint.

Hung some fabric on the walls and moved everything in. You wouldn't even know it was the same space. I love that in an antique center everyone can make their booth as unique as they are.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and if you have a chance, stop by Packards to check out the booth in person!

Introducing {Old White and Ebony Table}

This table turned out even cuter then I planned. The Old White painted bottom with the Ebony stained top really makes a statement. It is the perfect size for having these four chairs around it.

Speaking of chairs, I just love anything tufted and upholster. You can ask Alan about my weakness for it. I would love nothing more then a future couch that is full of tufting. These four chocolate brown chairs sure are comfy to sit on. The chairs and the table are currently in the booth ready to go home with you.

Introducing {Paris Grey Twins}

Paris Grey.

I just love this color. Oh Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, if I were one of your colors then Paris Grey would be it. The color really helped to bring out the detailing of each piece. I love the original hardware, each little knob is just prefect on them. They are lightly distressed and finished with clear wax. These matching beauties have tugged at my heart ever since I found them in Cullman, Alabama. They are now available for purchase at Packards Antique Center.

Booth Update

On Friday, I made the announcement that Alan and I opened A Lovely Avenue, the booth! We are so thrilled with the response that we have received from everyone and are so thankful for all the support. This weekend we dropped off the table to the booth.

I am so happy with the way it turned out. What a wonderful start! In the future, as we complete pieces of furniture and painted signs for the booth or custom pieces for clients, I will make sure to share it with you in a post.

I have some great pieces in the workshop, so make sure you are following the blog to get the latest updates!

Grand Opening: A Lovely Avenue

I am so excited to tell you about our new adventure. Alan and I have opened A Lovely Avenue. That's right! A Lovely Avenue is now a booth at Packards Antiques in Huntsville!

We are huge fans of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, and after refinishing some pieces with it we thought that it would be fun to refinish pieces for others with it. We decided to go for it and expand A Lovely Avenue. So now A Lovely Avenue is a collection of unique hand painted furniture, one of a kind crafts and antiques. We exclusively refinish furniture pieces with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, the best paint in the world!

Therefore, the blog will morph slightly. You can still expect the updates on all of our house projects and occasional pictures of the cute Mr. Bennett, but we will also update you whenever we have a new piece of furniture available.

Tomorrow, we will bring over an oak dining table to put with those chairs.

There are also a few more tabs at the top of the blog. One is contact information and an address to Packards to check out the booth. The other is the available pieces tab that you can check regularly for new and available pieces.

We even now have a Facebook Page! Click over and "like" us. I get so excited every time someone likes us.

Swing by and see it in person. I am just so tickled that it has become a reality!

Kitchen Tour

I realized that WAY back at the beginning I talked about my inspiration for the kitchen while building. But I never show you a completed version. I apologize for the long delay, but now I give you our kitchen...

I am so glad we customized our cabinets because I had dreams of white cabinets with glass uppers in this kitchen.

Since we cook daily, Alan was worried about the white granite (called Pasmina). But after almost 8 months in the house, we haven't had a single stain.

We choose the white subway tile for the back splash and have been so happy with it. One of my favorite things in the whole kitchen is the gas stove. We love to cook on gas, so the stove was our number one appliance.

We wanted the kitchen pretty and functional for the way we like to cook.

The open floor plan was must for us. We love that the kitchen opens to the living and dining areas allowing us to have our bar area. Friends and family always end up on the stools when they are over.

We have used every nook and cranny of it and I don't think there is anything that we would change. There are a few other place I haven't shared yet. Maybe next up will be the pantry, aka the door on the left side of the kitchen. It might just surprise you.
